Pre-Worlds Training - Jan. 1 - 7

Well this is it.....

Since ringing in 2012 - we have been back on the water training.  All the teams are here & there has been lots of inter-squad training.  Drills & practices races - everyone checking everyone out.

Today (Friday Jan. 6) - was to be another session - but unfortunately not much wind. On Jan. 2 a cold front came through & it was COLD. Was below zero a few nights - now for you northerners - that might not seem like much - but to be below freezing this far south was not good. Just watch - your orange juice prices are about to go up. Anyhow, after the cold front passes, comes the warmer weather but with that can come no or little wind. Hoping the forecast has some wind in the future!

Saturday (7th) the boat is hauled out of the water. Needs to be measured & weighed to ensure it is within the class rules. It is quite a process. Steve McBride is coaching us & he is going to take care of that for us tomorrow. Ken & I are taking the day away from the Sailing Center.

Back in the water for Sunday & Monday - then all the prep is done. Worlds Regatta starts on Tuesday (Jan. 10) and runs through Sunday (Jan. 15).  We are scheduled to have 2 races/day, with 1 race on the last day. Each race is between 1 - 1.5 hours. With all the time to rig the boat; get out to the race course; pre-race warm-up; race 1; time between race 1 & 2; race 2; sail back in; de-rig boat; bebrief with the coach ==> about 6-7-8 hours.  That is if the wind is on - if there are any delays due to lack of wind - just add time sitting around waiting to go out.

Well this is it - all the prep has been done - BRING IT ON!!

I am going to try to do my best & write daily blog for end of each race day. Not sure what the official website will have for info but here is the link.   Worlds Regatta Website

Oh just noticed... here is a link to an article that was published in the local paper about Ken & me.  Front page - I was sort of famous for a few days... People would come up & say "hey weren't you on the front page of the paper?"  If you would like to read the article   Article - you need to scroll down to Nov. 9, 2011.
